HB 1080 will allow Illinois cities to ban ANY breed of dog. Illinois state law currently prohibits cities/counties from passing breed-specific laws but if Rep. John E. Bradley has his way Illinois will remove the ban on classifying “vicious” dogs based on breed. This means any city council could decide that chihauhuas, spaniels or poodles were uniformly “vicious” and outlaw them. If this ill-conceived bill passes, any well-mannered pet could be seized and killed simply because of its appearance.
